A picture’s worth a thousand words

With all of the holiday activities going on it’s been a super busy summer for Chicken and Frog, even though we are not open yet! As you may know, together with Claire Mackaness, we have been providing storytelling coupled with arts & crafts activities throughout the summer and it’s been a blast.

Today was our last joint event of the summer. We wanted to produce something of a legacy for our grand finale, so we put our heads together and came up with a cunning plan. Under the title of ‘Brentwood’s Children’, Claire had the lovely idea of creating something like this:

So, we read lots of stories, to get the children thinking about how different we all are, whilst embracing the impact that such variety has on the world we live in.

Lots and lots of lovely books

We wanted to celebrate diversity and inclusion in Brentwood, so we encouraged the children to make paper plates portraits of themselves, using skin-toned crayons and an array of crafty bits and pieces. I think that you will agree that they did a grand job:

Happy, happy, happy!

The next stage will be for these glorious creations to be displayed for all to see in the shop window. What a wonderful way to celebrate how great our kids are.
