It’s Festival season and we are extremely lucky to have our very own Brentwood Festival, bringing together world-class acts, local businesses and creating a real sense of community in our town. If you haven’t been before, why not? This year looks to top 2015, with a fantastic array of entertainment on offer:
When it’s done well, like the Brentwood Festival, festivals can be a highly accessible format for introducing people to new experiences in an exciting environment and that’s just what we aim to achieve. And so, we want to become part of the festival scene.
Our plan is a simple one. As of July 2016 (22nd-31st), we will run an annual ‘Brentwood Children’s Literary Festival’ for one week during the school summer break, with one or two events each day. The locations will be here at Chicken and Frog, the lovely Brentwood Theatre (just around the corner from us) and Brentwood Library too. All events will be ticketed, with books available on the day – signed by our fantastic array of authors and illustrators. The events themselves will vary in format, from workshops to performance poetry, from talks to illustration sessions.
We are going for funding at present – although some is already in place – as we are passionate that festival is accessible for all. To that end, tickets will cost no more than £3 each (plus a 10% online booking fee). Our heartfelt thanks go out to Brentwood Theatre, who will be selling tickets for us via their online facility.
So far, the following authors and illustrators are on board: J.D.Irwin, Sara Grant, John Dougherty, Andy Robb, Michelle Robinson, Karen McCombie, Dan Freedman, Hazel Williams, Teresa Heapy, A.F.Harrold, Dave Cousins, Ian Whybrow, Christopher William Hill, David O’Connell and Pete Johnson.
